TETHERED OR UNTETHERED? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Tethered chargers come with a cable attached to the unit and are designed to be permanently fixed to a wall. They are the more convenient type of chargers for most especially if you plan on charging up every night, as most electric car owners do.

A tethered charger is very straight forward to use, you simply pull up and plug your vehicle in to the EV charger, as simple and effective as that. As well as this, owners do not need to worry about misplacing or losing the cable, instead, its right where you left it.

Untethered chargers offer more flexibility. They come without a cable so require you to connect your own, giving users the freedom of the length and type they choose. This also allows for multipurpose use. Not only can you use the charging cable at home, you can take them travelling, making it an ideal option for use at other charging points while you are out and about.

POWER OPTIONS/CHARGING SPEEDS

When choosing an EV charger, this is one of the most important elements to consider as the power rating of your charger will determine how quickly it takes to charge your car. There are three types of EV chargers. The most common type of vehicle charger for at home installation is for up to 7.4kw.

7kw chargers are considered to be fast chargers and have rapidly become the standard option for the majority of UK homeowners. They speed up the charging process, generally being able to charge an electric vehicle from empty to full in around four to six hours.

LOCATION

In order to have your EV charger installed, you’ll need to select a suitable location at your property. Most car charger installations require off-road parking such as a drive way or garage. EV chargers must be wall mounted in a vertical position, your charger will need to be installed on a suitable fixed and study surface like a brick wall.
